How to use the Markdown to HTML Converter

What is Markdown?

Markdown is a plain-text writing format created by John Gruber in 2004. You use simple symbols, like # for a heading, * for a list item and ** for bold, and a converter turns them into HTML tags a browser can display.

Why are my Markdown tables not converting?

Tables are an extension to the original Markdown syntax, so they are off by default. Switch on the Tables option under Converter Options and pipe-style tables will turn into proper table, tr and td tags. Task lists work the same way.

Does it show a rendered preview?

The tool shows the generated HTML code rather than a rendered page. To see how it looks, download the .html file and open it in your browser, or paste the code into your site or editor.

Is my Markdown uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion runs in your browser using the Showdown library, so your content is not sent to a server to be converted. We only log basic usage details, like input length and which options are switched on.
