Frequently asked questions

What is letter frequency analysis?

It counts how often each letter appears in a text. In typical English, E, T, A and O lead the list, so unusual results can hint at another language, a cipher or a narrow vocabulary. Word frequency works the same way and is handy for spotting overused words.

How are sentences and paragraphs counted?

A sentence is counted at each run of ending punctuation, such as a period or question mark, so abbreviations like "e.g." can push the total up slightly. Paragraphs are blocks separated by a blank line, so single line breaks do not start a new one.

Are common words like "the" left out of Top 5 Words?

No. Every word counts, so short words like "the", "and" and "to" often top the list in longer texts. That is normal, and the chart is still useful for catching repeated keywords in shorter pieces.

Is my text uploaded?

No. All counting happens in your browser, so your text is not sent to a server for analysis. We only log basic usage details, like text length and the resulting counts, not the text itself.
