Frequently asked questions

What is the Flesch Reading Ease score?

It rates text on a scale of roughly 0 to 100 using average sentence length and average syllables per word. Higher scores are easier: 60 to 70 is plain English most adults read comfortably, while scores under 30 suit specialists and academic readers.

What is the Flesch-Kincaid grade level?

It turns the same sentence and syllable counts into a school grade, so a score of 8 means a typical grade 8 student should follow the text. The checker shows this as a grade band, such as 7th-8th Grade or College.

What readability score should I aim for?

For web pages, emails and a general audience, aim for a Flesch score of 60 or higher, roughly a grade 8 or 9 reading level. Technical or academic writing can score lower, but shorter sentences and simpler words help any reader.

Is my text sent to a server or an AI?

No. Scores and suggestions are worked out in your browser with standard formulas, and no AI model is involved. We only log basic usage details, such as text length and the resulting scores, never the text itself.
