Frequently asked questions

What is an .htaccess file?

An .htaccess file is a per-directory configuration file for Apache web servers. It lets you set redirects, rewrite URLs, force HTTPS, block IP addresses, add custom error pages and control caching without editing the main server config, and changes take effect without a restart.

Can it edit my existing .htaccess file?

Yes. Paste or upload your current file and describe the change. The AI is asked to keep your existing rules and only add, change or remove what you requested, but compare the result with your original before you deploy it.

Will these rules work on Nginx?

No. .htaccess files are read by Apache and Apache-compatible servers such as LiteSpeed. Nginx ignores them and uses its own configuration syntax, so the rules would need to be translated by hand.

Is the generated code safe to use as-is?

Treat it as a draft to review. The rules are written by an AI model and are not tested against your server, and a single bad directive can cause a 500 error. Keep a backup of your current file and test changes on staging first.

Where is my .htaccess content sent?

Your current file and instruction are sent to OpenTools' server and passed to an AI model to produce the result, so processing does not happen in your browser. Remove passwords, internal paths and anything else sensitive before you paste.
