Frequently asked questions

What is robots.txt?

Robots.txt is a plain text file at the root of your site that tells search engine crawlers which paths they may request. It uses User-agent lines to name a crawler, Allow and Disallow rules for paths, and an optional Sitemap line. Well-behaved bots follow it, but nothing enforces it.

Does robots.txt stop a page from appearing in Google?

Not reliably. Disallow stops crawling, but a blocked URL can still be indexed if other sites link to it. To keep a page out of search results, let it be crawled and add a noindex meta tag, or put it behind a login.

Can I block AI crawlers with robots.txt?

Yes. Ask for it in Requirements, for example "block GPTBot, ClaudeBot and CCBot", and the generator can add Disallow rules for those user agents. Compliance is voluntary, so it deters well-behaved bots but cannot stop scrapers that ignore it.

Where is my input sent?

Your domain and requirements are sent to OpenTools' server and passed to an AI model that writes the file. Robots.txt is public once uploaded, so do not list secret URLs in it, since anyone can read the paths you block.
