Frequently asked questions

Are my videos uploaded?

No. The editor runs FFmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly, inside your browser tab. Your browser downloads the FFmpeg engine the first time, but your video files stay on your device from start to finish.

Why does my trimmed clip start a little early?

To keep full quality and finish fast, trimming copies the video without re-encoding it. A copied cut can only start cleanly on a keyframe, a full frame stored every few seconds, so your clip may begin slightly before the start you picked.

Why did my merge fail or play oddly?

Merging joins clips without re-encoding, so they need the same codec, resolution and frame rate, such as several clips from the same phone. Clips from different cameras or apps may fail to merge or glitch at the joins.

How do I replace a video soundtrack?

Run Remove Audio first, then use Add Audio on the silent video. Add Audio does not strip the existing sound, so on a video that already has audio, the original track can end up in the result instead of your new one.

What format do I get back?

Results are MP4 files. The video stream is copied as-is, so there is no quality loss from re-encoding, and Add Audio encodes your new track as AAC.
