Frequently asked questions

Do QR codes expire?

The static codes made here never expire, because your link or text is stored in the pattern itself. Dynamic codes point through an OpenTools short link, so they keep working while the code stays active in your dashboard, and you can change the destination any time.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

A static code stores your content directly, so it can never change once printed. A dynamic code stores a short redirect link instead, which lets you swap the destination later and count scans. Dynamic codes need you to sign in.

Is it really free?

Yes. Static codes are free with no sign-up, no watermark and no scan limit. Signing in adds dynamic codes with scan counts, which you manage from the QR Codes page in your dashboard.

Can I make a WiFi QR code?

Yes. Type WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetwork;P:YourPassword;; into Text or URL, using your own network name and password. Most phone cameras offer to join the network when they scan it.

Where is my QR code made?

Static codes are drawn in your browser as you type, and the PNG is created on your device. Dynamic codes save your destination link to your OpenTools account so the short link knows where to send people.
