Frequently asked questions

What is an ICS file?

An ICS file is a plain-text calendar file in the iCalendar format, defined by the RFC 5545 standard. It describes an event, including its title, times, location and a unique ID, so almost any calendar app, such as Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, can import it.

How do I add an ICS file to Google Calendar?

On a computer, open Google Calendar, go to Settings, choose Import and export, select the .ics file and pick the calendar to add it to. In Outlook or Apple Calendar you can usually just open the file and confirm the event.

What time zone does the event use?

The times you enter are read in your device's time zone and converted to UTC in the file. Calendar apps convert them back, so the event shows at the right local time for anyone who imports it, wherever they are.

What are UID and DTSTAMP?

UID is a unique ID that calendar apps use to tell events apart, and DTSTAMP records when the file was made. Leave both empty and they are filled in for you. Reuse an old UID only when you want calendars to update an event you already sent.

Do I need an account?

No. The ICS Generator is free with no sign-up, and the file is built right in your browser and downloads straight to your device, so there is no waiting on a server.
