UUID v4: Randomly generated UUID, most commonly used.

About this tool

Generate unique identifiers with various algorithms to meet your application's specific needs. Perfect for developers, database architects, and system designers who need to create secure, collision-resistant IDs for scalable applications. Choose from UUID versions 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 for universal uniqueness, CUID for distributed systems, ULID for lexicographically sortable IDs, or NanoID for compact, URL-friendly identifiers. Includes validation capabilities to verify ID formats and ensure data integrity in your applications.

How to use the UUID/Nanoid Generator

  1. On the Generate tab, choose an ID type from Select ID Type.
  2. Set Number of IDs to generate, up to 100 for UUID v4, CUID, ULID and NanoID.
  3. Click Generate IDs, then Copy All to copy the list.
  4. To check an ID, open the Validate tab, pick UUID, ULID or CUID, paste it and click Validate ID.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UUID?

A UUID, or universally unique identifier, is a 128-bit value written as 32 hex digits in five groups, like 123e4567-e89b-12d3-a456-426614174000. Version 4 UUIDs are random, so you can create them anywhere without coordination and practically never get a duplicate.

Which ID type should I use?

UUID v4 is the safe default for random IDs. UUID v7 and ULID start with a timestamp, so they sort by creation time and index well as database keys. NanoID is short and URL-friendly, and CUID (here CUID2) is a secure, collision-resistant ID built for web apps.

Why do UUID v3 and v5 always give the same value?

UUID v3 and v5 are name-based: they hash a namespace and a name, so the same pair always produces the same UUID. This tool uses a fixed OpenTools namespace and name, so each click returns the same value. Use v4 or v7 when you need a fresh ID every time.

Are the IDs generated in my browser?

Yes. IDs are created on your device with standard open-source libraries (uuid, nanoid, ulid and cuid2) and are not sent to a server. The Validate tab works differently: the ID you paste there is recorded in usage analytics.
